Summer vibes, Summer Slide

It’s summer. That means that most of us will enjoy some vacation time. You and your colleagues will probably take some weeks off and leave your work as is. Go to a campsite, visit your grandparents, take a road trip, do absolutely nothing, or do whatever it is that brings you joy. It is vital to relax and leave work at the office for that time.

Don’t forget your skills

Vacation is important for your well-being. But … there is also a downside to the summer period. While it is a good thing that you forget about work for a while, during vacation, you also tend to forget important knowledge and skills. Skills that you need to do your work properly once you go back after the summer. This phenomenon is called the ‘Summer Slide’.

Did you know that each fall, approximately six weeks are spent brushing up to make up for the summer learning loss? You slide down fast and it takes time to get back up to the right proficiency levels again. Luckily, there is something that you can do.

Stay on track

Whereas it might not sound very attractive to do some learning while on vacation, it will help you to get back on track in no time when your vacation ends. If you don’t let your proficiency slide under 60%, you can still get back on track quickly. So set learning objectives, and let Drillster send you a reminder in time. With as little as 2 hours per week, you can fight the Summer Slide and stay up-to-date on important knowledge and skills. This way, you will be fully relaxed, and fit for the job upon return.
