At Alrijne, continuous learning is a core value. Yet a few years ago, a familiar question arose: is there a better way? How do we ensure that employees don’t just acquire critical knowledge, but actually retain it and apply it on the job? Driven by this need, Alrijne sought an innovative solution, leading the healthcare organization to Drillster.
Since its rollout, the adaptive learning app has been utilized for a wide range of topics, from medical math to specialized nursing content. Staff members can easily maintain their skills and knowledge exactly when needed. By regularly delivering bite-sized learning prompts, critical information is retained longer, seamlessly integrating professional development into the daily workflow.
According to Alrijne’s Learning & Development consultants, the success lies primarily in the combination of urgency, relevance, and user experience. Topics that address an immediate need or a specific challenge have proven particularly well-suited for Drillster. Additionally, bridging the gap between formal and informal learning helps deeply embed knowledge within the organization for the long term.
Accessibility also plays a key role. Because employees can easily use Drillster on mobile devices, learning fits more naturally into the dynamic, fast-paced environment of a hospital.
Alrijne sees plenty of potential for the future. The hospital plans to further experiment with AI, expand its use of Question Crafter, and continue enriching its question banks. Furthermore, Alrijne is exploring how Drillster can drive performance and sustainable skill development across new competency frameworks.
Alrijne’s experience demonstrates that effective learning is not about more training, but about smarter learning. With Drillster, knowledge is not just built, it is sustained. This ensures that the right professional possesses the right skills at the right moment, delivering a tangible impact on patient care.
