Why being compliant is not enough in today’s society

Storytelling. The term has become increasingly popular in recent years and is being used more consciously for a multitude of purposes, but in reality, it is as old as mankind. The first communications we can find, such as cave paintings, folk tales, and plays, are all forms of storytelling. After all, in those times, this was the only way to convey messages and knowledge. The urge to tell stories is within the human being as a kind of primal instinct. Thousands of years have passed since then and now we record everything in books, digital formats, presentations, videos and even VR. To say the least, we’ve become a lot more sophisticated in storytelling, the means we do so, and the applications for it. Nevertheless, storytelling is still an important part of who we are. Now what about the use of storytelling in (corporate) learning?

It’s summer. That means that most of us will enjoy somevacation time.You and your colleagues will probably take some weeks off and leave your work as is. Go to a campsite, visit your grandparents, take a road trip, do absolutely nothing, or do whatever it is that brings you joy. It is vital to relax and leave work at the office for that time.

Adaptive learning is a method that adapts to each employee's level of knowledge and experience, adjusting to their learning speed. On May 9-11, the Performance Journey goes Dutch event was held. Normally, the Performance Journey is the annualXprtise-organized trip to Orlando, Florida, the home of the Learning [2022] event. This annual journey sees a varied group of around 60 L&D professionals travel to the U.S. to attend sessions, dine together, and take the opportunity to go on a few working visits as well, so as to further enrich the trip with inspiration, new contacts, and interesting stories from others in their field.

Now we’re going to talk about feedback. Not the feedback you get from your manager or director at the end of the year, but the feedback that is used in (corporate) learning to give information to the student after completing exercises or courses. What was good? What was wrong? And why? It isn’t exactly rocket science, but there’s definitely science behind it. And that knowledge is important to ensure that people learn as effectively and efficiently as possible.
