Introducing the April Update for the Drillster Question Crafter

We're excited to announce a major update to the Drillster Question Crafter, designed to make your learning experiences sharper, more structured, and more effective than ever before!

Clearer Learning with Improved Bloom's Level Separation

One of the most significant improvements of this update is a much stricter distinction between the three Bloom's taxonomy levels: Recall, Understand, and Apply.

Every question is now automatically checked against the rules for its designated level before being included. This ensures a clear progression in learning and eliminates the overlap that could occasionally occur in the past.

To illustrate:

Recall questions focus on retrieving facts or procedures

  • Example: "Before clicking a link in an unexpected email, you should first ___."

Understand questions emphasize interpretation and explanation

  • Example: "What does hovering over a link in an unexpected email help you verify?"

Apply questions place learners in realistic scenarios

  • Example: "You receive an unexpected email saying your account will be locked unless you extend your membership using the following link. What should you do before deciding whether to click it?"

For Apply-level questions, adding detailed context is more important than ever. Tailoring scenarios to your learners' roles, such as sales versus customer support, helps create more relevant and impactful learning experiences.

New Context Commands for Greater Control

We've also introduced two powerful new commands that can be used in the context field across all locales:

Use referenced learning elements: If your source material already includes explicitly defined learning elements, the system will use those directly instead of extracting new ones.

Exhaustive mode: This mode ensures that all learning elements are included without filtering. It's ideal when most of the content is critical.

In contrast, the default mode prioritizes the most essential elements that are linked to critical skills where forgetting the information could cause permanent damage, safety hazards, or compliance failures. The Question Crafter only crafts questions for these "need-to-know" concepts where failure actively hurts the organization, deliberately skipping the "nice-to-know" information that can just be referenced later.

With Exhaustive mode, you're in full control of what stays and what goes.

This update is all about giving you more precision, more control, and better outcomes for your learners. We're confident these improvements will help you create even more engaging and effective training experiences.

As always, we'd love to hear your feedback as you explore the new features!
