Shell Recharge Solutions

When Shell Recharge Solutions set out to build its European EV charging network, the biggest operational challenge was not the hardware. It was ensuring every electrician across 50 installation partners in 13 countries could install it correctly. Drillster replaced classroom-based training with a scalable, multilingual learning solution that lets installers train on their own time, and delivered the improvement in installation quality the business was aiming for.

The challenge

Shell Recharge Solutions operates a complex European network. With around 50 installation partners spread across 13 countries, each with its own language, its own partner types, and its own electricians who need to be trained on the hardware, keeping everyone current through traditional classroom training was simply not sustainable.

Before Drillster, in-person training was the only option. Organising and running those sessions placed a significant burden on the internal team and on installation partners who had to take their electricians off the job. The logistics were demanding, and as the network grew, it became clear the model could not scale.

The operational pressure showed up at installation level. Prior to switching to Drillster, the team saw challenges when it came to installations, a direct consequence of inconsistent training coverage.

A more scalable training model

When Shell Recharge Solutions needed a better approach, the answer was Drillster. The platform gives installers the flexibility to complete their training on their own time, without waiting for a scheduled session or requiring travel.

The learning experience is structured and intuitive. Learners first move through content that explains the product, then answer questions to test and reinforce what they have learned. That sequence works well for technical subjects: it builds understanding progressively before validating it.

It's really easy to go through the courses. First the stories, which explain the product, and then you have questions to answer.

Managing a multilingual, multi-country network

One of the more demanding aspects of running a pan-European training programme is the operational management. Shell Recharge Solutions works with partners across 13 countries. Most of those countries have their own language. Some have multiple. On top of that, the team distinguishes between different types of installation partners and resellers, each with different course requirements.

Drillster handles this through a group-based structure. The team has configured a large number of Drillster groups, allowing them to deliver the right content in the right language to the right partners. What previously required complex logistics is now managed through configuration.

To be able to manage Drillster in that amount of countries, we have a lot of Drillster groups. Most countries have their own language. Some countries even have multiple languages.

The results

The shift to Drillster brought real change. Installers now complete their training independently, on their own schedule, without placing demands on the Shell Recharge team or requiring installation partners to pull electricians from the field for a scheduled class.

Most importantly, the quality of installations has improved. The goal is now to reach 100% trained installers across every installation in the network.

We have seen an improvement in installations and the quality of those installations. The goal is now to get 100% trained installers on our installations. I would certainly recommend Drillster for other organisations.
